Iron Man Charter Report

On Saturday, June 25th Capt Dave Auger and myself ran the season's first Iron Man charter to Fippennines Ledge.

We departed at 0330 and returned at 2030. In between those hours the five anglers and crew rode four hours plus, experienced a non stop bite for over eight hours while on the ledge and returned home after another 4 hour ride.

The fishing was frantic from the first minute jigs hit the bottom with pollack, cod and haddock inhaling both jigs and bait.



When gutted fish filled all the coolers and ripping tub, the deck was utilized to hold the overflow.



With over 450 lbs of fillet cut the trip was deemed a huge success.

We are doing it again in a couple weeks and hopefully we make it to the halibut grounds which we didn't do this time.

Looks like a perfect day! Curious to know what type of luck you've had with Halibut out there? Do you fish differently for halibut?

Last year we took three halibut (released two alive) on the one Iron Man Charter we ran. The fish we retained ( 65lbs) was taken on a cod fly above a Solvroken jig. A little nerve wracking as the angler was using 50 lb mono as a leader but his skills and experience paid off.

This last trip we never made it to the halibut grounds as the fishing was so insane in the area we started. We abided by the golden rule of never leave biting fish to find other fish.

Halibut will take jigs or bait and in fact the only halibut I have ever caught was taken on a whole mackerel.

Our next Iron Man is on August 4th and the plan is to start on the halibut grounds and try and put a flattie in the boat. This is the same time of year as last so we are looking forward to the trip with high expectations.

The August 4th trip is sold out but we have added one more on August 25th. This is a limited trip with only 4 anglers on board. As of today there are still two spots open. If anyone is interested, either email or call me and I will fill you in on the particulars.
