Been running around the southern part of the bank, and south. Slowly but surely making progress with the squid bars. Its been a love/hate relationship but watching the hits on these things make it worth all the while. good luck out there

I like darker colors like black, but that is really based on what people have told me. , if you were to ask me a week ago, 4 days ago, and today, I'd tell you different color, or a different distance back was my favorite... I dont have a ton of experience, and only a few hook ups with them, as in the past I am usually quick to toss the bars, and go to the slugos and xraps or live baits...If anyone has some good tips or general rules of thumb with squid bars I'd love to hear them!!!!!!!... Like speeds, distance, color selction, and if you do anything different based on the the size of fish or type bait around.

The general rule is the slower the better. Anywhere between 3-4 knots is good. I like black and natural colors rather than the bright ones, but the hot orange does work well. The number one rule is only troll them back as far as you can with the bars out of the water. You don't want those bars dragging through the water so that determines distance. I saw 4 or 5 hook ups Saturday on squid bars, middle of the day around the whales. Good luck

Black way back.....and Bright up tight. This has worked well for me when using squid bars. I vary my speed depending on conditions. but usually run at 5-7mph.
