awful quiet

Nobody went looking for Charlie in almost a week? I went out this morning and found some small pods of big fish busting bait here in Maine. Nothing great but it's a start.

I think there is just nothing to report. Saturday I took the family to the isle of shoals saw whales, porpoise, and seals on the way there and back. The water was like glass, but no Charlie and no bait. Sunday we covered stellwagon from top to bottom on a friends boat and it was DEAD. Two whales on the whole bank. We stopped to jig in a few places while we drifted baits and found whiting around the ll's, and the swc. Nothing around to eat them but dogs and dwarf cod. I'm afraid that when it does break loose it's going to be ugly. I will definitely take a weekday or two off to avoid the shit show that's going to happen when Charlie shows up. It's going to look like the mouth of the Merrimack times ten (not the current, the a-holes swearing at eachother).

I took a ride yesterday morning out towards thatchers and a little south, tons of life a few miles south of gloucester but no tooners. out east of thatchers i had massive schools of mackerel just hanging out, and no signs of anything chasing them. dead.

It will happen, but you either need to take a ride down south or out to the northeast. not trips i'm willing and/or set up to make on a whim.

Any blue dogs around? At this point I just want something heavy for a change, and was thinking of chumming for blue dogs on Old Scantum this weekend if they are around.

I was out yesterday at the Curl got 5 blue sharks. GREAT haddock and good cod. could have got blue sharks all day 7 to 10 feet. Hooked a few up on spinning gear to bring back the feelings of yesteryears and charlie.......I have only seen one pod of tuna all year. Getting depressing. I predict a BANNER fall.

hit the Prong, 1st and 2nd islands over the weekend... some decent herring schools on top, dragged some plastic around for a while, 2 decent marks, but nothing on top... It'll pop here soon. It's quiet 'cuz there just isn't a lot going on... yet.

hit the second island yesterday, it was slow. Had a few schools of Macs come through our slick but no marks to speak of.
Chatter on the radio was slow and there were some guys putting on some serious miles looking for the spot.

one of the best weather days on the water for sure. Flat and calm, light tides - but no fishy.

Finally ended up making an account for here..

Headed out last Sunday to the Chatham to Nauset stretch, 3-4 miles off on the 150 line. (bunch of local/charter guys intel) Birds, bait, whales, bluefish blitzes and only four solid marks all day. Missed the bite there by a few days it seems, heard of one 56" pulled in there that day in a fleet of at least 50 boats. Heard chatter on the radio about how BC/Crab ledge was same situation. Everyone down there was trolling bars, daisy chains etc.

Drove up the entire bank from SW to NW, nothing.. Going out Saturday morning to NW corner, possible wildcat for intentions of charlie but might end up chumming for some blue dogs to make it worth the trip.

Open to sharing intel with anyone else headed out, Fin & Tonic on ch. 65 and 8.

I think whats killing me is that I check weather and do drive buys every day and its like 1-2's with a light 5-10 knt sw breeze. Ideal for those of us with boats that are "not-exactly-offshore" machines.

The tuna will show up and pow...3-5's with 25knt winds from the E...

Its not as quiet as everyone thinks fish are here on jeffries, just not the chum feeders yet, lots of bait around so the feed is a smorgasborg, get a live bait down on there nose and bang you will be hooked up. been out a few times and marked and seen a few fish with a break off yesterday on Scantum big marks no little guys, good luck out there.
