OceanLED?

Postby FishOn » Mon Jul 23, 2012 7:27 pm

Was looking into some underwater lights. Anyone REALLY utilize them? A bit pricey seeing as you have to get at least two for a 27 footer it seems. Also what brand you find the best?

Thanks,

A friend installed a pair of OceanLED's on his 18' Parker while landlocked (new baby) a month or so ago. We finally gave them a soak over the weekend. Amazing how fast you can make bait with the lights turned on. They're not inexpensive, but seem worth it.

I've got a pair of underwater lights on my Cape Cod 26. I use them a fair bit and they are pretty effective for attracting bait and fish. I put a lot of research into which lights were right for me and settled on the Lumishores which gave me greater output for half the price of the OceanLED's. If you want to go cheap, there's stuff like coastal night lights which work and are very inexpensive. If you wanted something price wise in line with the OceanLED lights, go with the Shadowcasters. In terms of best output per dollar the Lumishore's are unbeatable, plus it's bronze housing, overbuilt...done right. Make sure you go with green as well. I have done quite a bit of parallel testing between blue and green and can confidently say that blue is for looks, green is for fishin.

I had a very bright white set up that I built myself on my last boat. It definitely scared the crap out of stripers in the shallows! The biggest problem I had with them was keeping the lens clear as my boat is in a slip in the Merrimack. I have heard that smearing vaseline on the lens will keep them from being fouled but I do not have any on my new boat to try that out. If you trailer or dry rack your boat I'm sure its not an issue, but if you're in a slip keep that in mind.
