Pogies Good News & Bad

Postby JET_O'wey » Sun Aug 19, 2012 11:36 am

Finally came across good size school pf pogies but could not snag any. Used a large size and then a smaller size weighted treble but no luck. Hooks were sharp. Must have made 20 casts thru the school, never had this prob before. I did compromise many casts when the hook came in tangled on the braid. I had to stop doing a yanking retrieve to stop this tangling and just did a high speed retrieve. I had the hook tied directly to the braid. Ideas?

Slowly wind the rods tip back into striking position after jerking the tip. This will keep slack out of the system. As mentioned a stiff piece of mono could help you out in this case.

Another thing to do is to reel at a speed that keeps your treble hook in the baits and only set the hook when you feel it connect. With braid you will usually feel the line taps some backs as the hook gets into the zone. When you feel that set hard and long to cover some water.
