Lit up in Manchester

Postby akeroy » Tue Jun 26, 2012 10:17 pm

The rains ended at sunset tonight and at slack tide the harbor lit up like the really good old days. The surface feed lasted over an hour and the fish I encountered were all 28-35 inches. They were feeding on 4" Herring. Not a bad night and worth getting wet in the downpours. Rainbows, sunset and exploding fish. Maybe it will last for a while and you will get to enjoy it. There was only one other fisherman and he was catching big fish well into the inner harbor.

Thanks. I was casting from one of the harbor docks earlier (5-6 pm) and all that I saw was some squid. Would have been nice to see it go off like that.

Were you fishing from a boat or terra firma?

Sams,

I was in a boat but close-in. The fish were moving around and were easily accessible from the shore from time to time. There were some bigger fish chasing bait well into the harbor too. I suppose timing and good luck means you could have caught a fish from any number of spots. Hope it keeps up. Good luck!

Ran up to manchester harbor from Salem for a quick trip this evening. Didn't see anything going on there, but as we started back, saw a pretty big blitz right up against the rocks at the west end of West Beach. We didn't get many, as we got there as it was breaking up, but got a few, all 28-30"

Had to redeem myself after a tough weekend. Headed out at 6pm with a rising tide.

Made macs easily at the 10 can with Stevies world famous chum (sorry, FTA dont mean to promote a competitor, but the stuff works -feel free to delete) Picked up a friend deep in manchester harbor and fished in and around the general vicinity as the tide changed and the sun was setting.

We got some intel about the blitze off west beach that DEVO mentioned, and usually would have ran for it, but were into fish from 35"- 46" inches on every drift and elected not to "leave fish to find fish." Totalled 10 fish in about an hour and a half, and broke off a couple more that felt like they were big girls.

Still, awesome on light setups and 10lb test. All on macs with circle hooks and all in around 20 feet of water along the edges of sand/eel grass transitions.

Really fun night.
