JR,
Did you end up going back out? Just wondering if anything happened. I'm not ready to put the boat away and I have a feeling there are still good things to come.

The forecast looks amazing this weekend and my folks are in town so don't think I can fish!! That blasted Murphy!!!

Got down there about 5:45 with my surf rod. Birds were working and there were onion rings popping about 200 yards or so off shore.

A few other guys were casting but i didnt see anyone land a fish. All the surface action died as soon as the sun got low.

Good sign, though.

I was down The pier last night and the place was inundated with peanut bunker. A couple of other kinds of bait were also in the mix. I may try Saturday for the last hurah.

Really big surface feed right now South end of Singing to Lobster Cove. Tons of birds and you can see some pretty good sized fish breaking the surface. Huge wind and waves though. Really can't be fished safely. This is all about 100 yards or so off shore. Especially off the point that separates Singing from Lobster Cove....

Ran into a friend of mine who lives on the cove. He says they have been feeding regularly there at first light. But have been very tough to get to take a fly.....

Met Akeroy (awsome guy by the way) off of Singing beach/ Graves at sun up, some activity, few ones on the fly. His friend caught a really nice one, beautiful fish. A friend of mine was fishing just north of us at Kettle, guess it went off there in a larger scale. Anyway still fish out there fellas... go get em.

Nice! We are going to head out at first light tomorrow morning for a quick run. Can someone let the fish know that we are coming and should start to blitz when we arrive? Thanks.

I have been reading with interest the recent posts (October) about striper activity reasonably close to shore from Gloucester down to Salem. I have often thought of devoting more time to fishing this area (especially late season - late Sept through end October). But I just never got off my duff to see what might be involved. Today I had a few free hours (not nearly enough of those around), so I took a ride to see how I could access this area. Not easily seems to be the answer. Looks like the only boat ramps with parking are Beverly, Salem, and Gloucester. Nothing in between, making for a bit of a long run to say, Singing Beach or Kettle Cove. Am I missing something? For those of you who have been posting about those areas recently - are you in boats or fishing from shore? It does seem that one could launch a kayak from Singing Beach - I still have mine with a set of wheels to drag it down to the beach. But I'd much rather be able to use my 17' center console. Like alot of you, I have limited time to fish, so I am looking for time-efficiency.
So I was at both Singing, Wingaersheek, and West Beach today. Had my gear in the car. No activity that I could see. Granted it was bottom of the tide when I was there. I imagine those areas fish better toward the top of the tide and on the drop.
Anyone know if any of the local marinas in that area allow boats in till the end of October? possibly i could rent a slip for October (2012)?

johnb,
Your best bet for anything south of Gloucester, that I know of, is the Kernwood ramp in Salem. Best ramp around (brand new) and it's not that far to run up the south side of Gloucester. For anything north of Gloucester, probably the ramp behind the high school. Unfortunately, that's it. The ramp in Manchester is not very good and there is no parking.

We were at the coast from Singing to Kettle this morning at first light (f@cking cold). Found some birds and small schoolies at Graves tight to the beach. Also spent some time in Kettle, and even though we saw a couple of splashes, no real action by the time we had to leave a little after 8am. We also found a couple of large groups of birds sitting on the water in the middle of the sound on the way back to Salem. We stopped for a minute to see if things would bust loose, but I had to get back in by 9am so we didn't stay long enough to see if if anything happened.

I will say that each time I have been out the last few times (especially today),even thought I know it not going to, with all the birds and bait still around....it feels like it should go crazy any minute. Maybe it's just me.

I also got a text from my old man later today that he saw a blitz, and a few boats on it, at the mouth of the North river in Salem. He was driving over the Bev/Salem bridge at the time.

Bit of a surface feed going on right now at Singing. Just walked by. Looks like a few pods of fish about 100 yards off shore. Popping up every few minutes directly across from the turnaround area.....

Huge surface feed right now at Cape Hedge. Just can't get to it. Right in amongst the rocks next to the beach.
