I have been reading with interest the recent posts (October) about striper activity reasonably close to shore from Gloucester down to Salem. I have often thought of devoting more time to fishing this area (especially late season - late Sept through end October). But I just never got off my duff to see what might be involved. Today I had a few free hours (not nearly enough of those around), so I took a ride to see how I could access this area. Not easily seems to be the answer. Looks like the only boat ramps with parking are Beverly, Salem, and Gloucester. Nothing in between, making for a bit of a long run to say, Singing Beach or Kettle Cove. Am I missing something? For those of you who have been posting about those areas recently - are you in boats or fishing from shore? It does seem that one could launch a kayak from Singing Beach - I still have mine with a set of wheels to drag it down to the beach. But I'd much rather be able to use my 17' center console. Like alot of you, I have limited time to fish, so I am looking for time-efficiency.
So I was at both Singing, Wingaersheek, and West Beach today. Had my gear in the car. No activity that I could see. Granted it was bottom of the tide when I was there. I imagine those areas fish better toward the top of the tide and on the drop.
Anyone know if any of the local marinas in that area allow boats in till the end of October? possibly i could rent a slip for October (2012)?
