Karen Lynn

Share

The Karen Lynn is the newest addition to the Gloucester Massachusetts charter fishing fleet. The custom-built Lowell 43, which was launched in 2007, is a state-of-the-art fishing machine. It is fast and also extremely seaworthy and has the latest and most sophisticated electronics to help us consistently put you on to big fish. We specialize in sport fishing for tuna, sharks, and monster striped bass. Through our partnership with First Light Anglers, we can also offer you the opportunity to catch trophy fish on very light tackle with the area’s premier light tackle guide service. Please contact First Light Anglers to book a trip on this fishing machine with our experienced captains.

The Boat

The Karen Lynn is a 2007 state-of-the-art Downeast fishing boat. We had a Northern Bay 36, which was a great boat for five years. In 2005 we started thinking about building a bigger boat–one that would have a big spacious deck, hold 800 gallons of fuel for Canyon trips, have large capacity for keeping fish and ice, and most importantly, would allow us to comfortably fish almost every day regardless of the weather. We spent a year riding on boats built on many different hulls and decided on the Lowell 43 because of its superior ride in all conditions. What finally convinced us was a ride we took in February in Harpswell, Maine on a day with 30-knot winds and seas of 9-10′. When we went right into it at 18 knots comfortably without pounding, we knew we had found our hull. In June of 2007 the Karen Lynn was launched and we spent the summer rigging and fine tuning it. Built to stringent ABS structural standards, the Karen Lynn is incredibly stiff for its 14-ton displacement. It cruises comfortably at 18-20 knots powered by a 800HP Scania Diesel. With twin, water-lift mufflers the boat is very quiet and trolls incredibly well.

The Seasons

We offer trips for one to five anglers for Striped Bass, Bluefish, Cod, Haddock and school Bluefin Tuna fishing. Bass fishing begins in early May and continues through October. Bluefin tuna fishing charters typically begin in July and end at the end of October.

Captain Collin Mackenzie

Collin is a Licensed USCG Captain who has fished hard since he was a young child. Growing up in Gloucester on the Annisquam River, Collin was always on the water. After college, in addition to fishing, Collin worked and managed Fisherman’s Outfitter’s main shop in Gloucester. While there, Collin gained an incredible knowledge of gear, tackle and rigging. Collin is definitely not “old school” when it comes to gear; he is up-to-date on all the cutting-edge rigs and tricks, which helped him bring in the winning fish for the 2007 Boston Striper Shoot-out. He began fishing with Jim in 2003 on the Anna B and then helped Jim build the Karen Lynn. Collin’s knowledge, experience, and incredibly positive attitude not only will help you put big fish on the boat, but will make it a pleasure to be out with him.
