Over the last couple of days the striper fishing has really turned on. Reports around Marblehead, Beverly and Salem have been excellent. Guys fishing plugs and flies have seen good numbers of fish in the Danvers river and those using live mackerel have been catching some really nice fish in really good numbers already. The Essex, Ipswich and Parker rivers have also been fishing very well with sustained service feeds at Sandy Point and up in Plum Island sound throughout the week. Sounds like Joppa is fishing pretty well and just outside on the Plum Island ocean side has been steady. Although the herring should be dropping out pretty soon it seems that most of the bait is pretty small (2-4″). I have been using Shimano wax wings with great success as well as the Daiwa SP Minnow! Tides are great this weekend so get out there and enjoy!!
More encouraging reports of stripers coming in almost by the hour. We have had customers reporting of fish off of Marblehead, up in Beverly Harbor, schoolies in the Annisquam and fish in both the Essex and Ipswich rivers!! Sounds like the wait is over!!
Just got some of these in the shop, gonna make chumming for sharks, tuna and stripers a lot easier!! You can check out some video at www.chumcutter.com
Just got some cool new jigs in the shop for either groundfish or tuna. They are 12oz and 5.5″ long and 16oz and 7″ long. As they are rigged they are $16.99. As we get into tuna season I am going to by them without any hardware and rig them ourselves with the proper hooks and split rings.
Pretty much all of the local rivers and ponds have now been stocked!! Some decent stone fly and midge hatches being seen. Most anglers have been using buggers and small streamers as well as some small stonefly dry flies. The Mill and Parker rivers have herring starting to run as well.
Nat filmed this today in Essex, good to see!!Herring Movie
More great bait ball footage!! Bring it on!
We stocked the Mill River today with Sea Run brook and brown trout!!
First Light Anglers Upgrade and Yard Sale Programs-
Every anglers past has the chance of being another anglers future! First Light wants to turn your old tackle into new tackle. To this end we will be starting two different programs at the shop. Both offer great opportunities to turn those older or outdated rods and reels into valuable store credit! Our hope is that both programs benefit the novice and experienced angler.
First Light Upgrade Program- Any tackle you have with a value greater then $100 can be sold in two ways to earn store credit. First, bring the tackle to the shop and we will put it on the floor with an agreed upon price. When the item sells, that dollar amount will be turned into store credit for any future purchases. Second, we can decide to sell the tackle on Ebay. We will professionally photograph and list the item for an agreed upon price at no charge. We are very familiar with Ebay and have sold hundreds of items there. Again, when the item sells you earn store credit. The only difference here is we subtract any associated charges from Ebay or Paypal from the sale price of the tackle for store credit, usually around 5%.
First Light Yard Sale Program- Any tackle you have with a value less then $100 can be sold here at the shop for store credit. We have created an area at the shop where customers
